Who is responsible if my apartment was robbed and the landlord never had the loc
Asked by: mshipe17 from -
My apartment was recently entered and robbed. The police found no evidence of forced entry. When I inquired about the locks to the realtor. (my contact to owner) they at first swore up and down the locks were re keyed but called me a half hour later to tell me that in fact having the locks re keyed was never done. I spoke with the owner several weeks prior and he told me he knew the previous tenant trashed the apartment then abandoned it 15 days prior to him buying the building. This previous tenant moved right next door to me. She now has two men living with her and I assume they sell drugs because there is non stop traffic coming and going from her apartment. I am a single woman, living alone. Now scared to go home. I put 7500.00 down on rent for this apartment. Do I have to live like this for a year? Is there anything I can do?

If you have a list of the damage done, ask for repayment and keep reminding them to re-key the locks. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. I bet they will respond if you threaten to hire a lawyer for the damages and go to the city authorities about the locks.
