Actually, there are cases when body dysmorphic disorder begins at the age of 2-3 years. There doesn't seem to be any explanation for this other than it is a mental disorder. It can be triggered by one negative comment! It usually doesn't happen until adolescence, so you have a better chance to get help now, before the child is in the school system. It's like reprogramming the brain, but there is success in treating this disorder!
