One thing she didn't do, that I think is very misleading - she did not say that she was not an expert like you did, and that is so important! Her opening was full of errors, unlike yours. Every time I answer a medical question, I always say, I am no a doctor and I can't diagnose you! Then I go on to give some possible suggestions! I could only dream to have a queston or an answer copied by ANYONE.. just kidding. I hate Plagiarism and feel the it is totally different than copying an an answer from google, etc. That is what the SOURCE area is for. It allows you to "quote" something and then give credit to "the source".

I agree with ldong..... there is no difference in copy/pasting an answer from an individual on askpedia AND copy/pasting from sources out on the web such as wikipedia.

Plagarism is defined as literary theft, and misrepresentation of ideas as one's own. So, stealing an idea, putting quotation marks around it and referencing you sources is not quite plagarism, it is simply lazy. Laziness on this site is rife.... There are paragraphs copied word-for-word. This laziness is dangerous for 2 reasons. 1 - the original authors have had their ideas used (and in the above case, not appropriately referenced), and 2 - it is a no-brainer - you don't even have to think about the answer, just copy and paste - which leads to errors being replicated and often amplified.

What is worse, is that answers found on sites such as wikipedia are not subject to peer review before publication, and are notorious for being incomplete, or just plain wrong. I recommend doing research beyond wikipedia and such sites, and WRITING IN YOUR OWN WORDS words the interpretation you have come across. This kind of response should also be referenced.

I might add, that many respondents to this question are similarly guilty of copy/pasting from the web yet show concern for stolen answers. You know who you are!
