Plus reading is involved in every class (except P.E. and possibly weight lifting). Overall you're going to read alot, but in terms of the books during an english class, you can count on alot of people using spark notes to get by.

As an example, during my senior year we read 1984, and another book which I can't remember (the three chapters are based on 3 brothers, the first chapter is of a mentally hindered person). I don't think I've ever seen that many spark notes in my life, and this was a AP class. So the text it self is challenging, but many students (in my school at least) would rather read it.

Reading anywhere is important and intresting. I used to read paper books earlier and now I am more in e-books as I carry my lappy anywhere I want.

That all depends on whether you already know EVERYTHING or are willing to read and learn SOMETHING. Reading now, will have a direct effect on how much you earn later. You can refuse to read and end up pushing a broom or scrubbing toilets for a living. :-)
