It is a scam. Everybody gets them. Don't respond or you will either be cheated or divulge personal information that will be used to defraud you. You might even get some malware.

YES you can tell if you never entered it or tries to get your personal info you should not respond to it plus check your comp for viruses or other malicious software you should be okay if it dind't have a attachment and you opened it or gave away your personal info!!!
