I have xp in my laptop now. If I wanted to change, which one is better: to download ubuntu linux or to get a new windows vista. purpose, surfing the web and email.

UBUNTU for absolute sure!!!
bit of a learning curve but it its totally free, tons of support from people who actually use is at linuxquestions.org
you can find a program to match any windows application with basically little effort...
also, try downloading the web browser, "Opera"...very cool...mouse gestures and a speed dial home page...check it out......

Wouldn't recommend vista at all. It slows down your system, anything else will do :D...

My policy is if it aint broke then dont fix it but if you must.....go with Ubuntu
