Brother is a JERK
Asked by: crazy_0813 from CHICAGO, IL
OK, my brother is an absolute jerk. he is an alcoholic and he hits his girlfriend. we have made him go to AA meetings and see a therapist, but stopped after a week. now he is once again drinking, and is crazy. he has caused many incidents with his drunken behavior. Yet his girlfriend who is a great person wont leave him. we have tried to get her to leave him but hse says she feels sorry for him. she basically supports him and i believe will be mush better without, so basically, my 2 questions are how can i help my brother, and get his girlfriend out of this destructive relationship. and my brother is probably the most stubborn person u will ever meet. sorry if my question is too long.

well, if you brother is the sort of person who uses violence, it's hard to feel safe. here's a tip, the best i have: the place he drinks most needs to be a place where he doesn't go. pressure him to do thing or even use sabotage. the place where he goes for alcohol needs to be a place he can't get often.

My suggeston is to report to right authority for assault and abuse against his behaviour. Once he will put behind bars and punished then only he may straighten his life. I know it might be hard for for you to take such step but ultimately it will be good for everyone and all of you have a smile on your face once is he is ok.

Good luck....

My second wife was a mean closet drunk and even with her going through a detox for six weeks, she was drunk on her can less than 24 hours after being released.

Until any person admits to himself/herself they HAVE A PROBLEM then NO treatment is going to work.
