why is my dryer shocking me?
Asked by: diver8604 from -
I had to change the cord on my dryer I connected all three wires properly and now my dryer shocks me. Is this because the wall 220 socket is not grounded?

if you are being shocked...
The dryer is not properly grounded, or one of the wires is damaged and in contact with the metal of the dryer...
either way, the dryer is not properly grounded so anything that touches the metal casing of the dryer suddenly becomes the ground...

hmm actually the fact that you are being shocked is because the electricity finds it easier to go through your body than through the cable
ok, im not helping :)
try to keep your self "not grounded":
use the dryer while wearing shoes... or flip-flops, stand on a carpet, and try to dry your hands, body and feed well first ;)

I do not know which dryer you are asking about. i am presuming it to be tumble dryer.

Can I fix my own tumble dryer?: Some people can, and some people shouldn't even try. It depends on your competence, and understanding of electricity - especially DIY safety issues. Many tumble dryer breakdowns though are not serious, and can be repaired - if you just know what to do.

This is the easiest way to explain your problem, but a slightly more in depth look is required to ensure you are not in danger here.
-you mention that' ll three wires are correctly hooked-up', which are these three wires a black(hot), red (hot) and either a white(common) or bare (ground). If you are this far into it hopefully you have a D.V.O.M ( digital ...
