Religion because it often encourages people to fear others uneccesarily and creates a very annal and dogmatic frame of mind,people can be happy without religion but, politics are a neccesary evil..often,the only thing that stands in front of the assembled armies is diplomacy.

well, politics can be bad and cause major arguments and actual physical violence on occasion, but, religion has to be worse due to the wide variety of religions and the vastly different beliefs, i mean hell, look at the whole war thing, and the way that they believe it is an attack on their culture and religion.

How people can hate other people simply because of their religious beliefs is incomprehensible to me. Every major war in history has started over religion. For something which is suppose to be based on LOVE to cause so many deaths shows how some people take things way out of context to suit their violent feelings of hatred towards others.......

Religion definitely. People have been fighting over Religion for thousands of years and it still hasn't stopped.

Politics is almost Puppet Like and doesn't even compare the passion one has for their Religious Beliefs.

These two seperate words POLITICS & RELIGION are two very different things and they apply great if not misused.

Whereas, religion is the faith of the masses where they are taught to be helpful and giving to the society for eternal peace and happiness.

It becomes worse when religion is mixed in politics.

To me, politics and religion are opposites. When any established religion tries to place their politicians in office it tells me that they are not seeking religious reform, they are seeking religious ADVANTAGE.

While our founding father's were religious men, they also understood from personal experience, why people were fleeing to countries like America's and India's to escape religious persecutions in their homelands.Take example of TASLIMA from Bangladesh and DALAI LAMA from Tibet now China.

Because of their understanding they chose to exclude the "establishment" of any particular religion in the new nation they were building. They "allow for" all religions and protected "all" religions including those they personally did not belong to or support. They acknowledged that their Hindu/muslim/Christian beliefs were such that it was important to recognize other beliefs as having a valid and equal place to exist under our flag.

One only has to look to countries ruled by religious leaders to understand the dangers. Iran, Afghanistan, the former Soviet Union to name three; countries where a person could actually be sent to prison, or worse, for practicing any non-state religion. We are at war with people who attacked us based, in part, on their hatred of Hinduism/Judaism/Christianity.

Remember the Inquisition? In a time when Christianity ruled much of Europe, people were killed if they refused to convert.Now it is happening in most muslim countries like Sudan, Afgjanistan, Pakistan.

The only role government should serve with regard to religion is to ensure and protect everyone's right to practice, or not, any form of religion they choose.

I have a profound distrust of any religious group supporting any politician. To me that is just short of making a bargain with the devil in exchange for a religious advantage.

But Ireland is slowly coming to terms wrt religion-secularism.
But worldwide, the future looks different with the purposeful dissemination of Islam(speaking of the radical fundamentalists with Saudi monetary assistance despite their denial-better your house than mine philosophy) into all corners of the world not militarily suppressed as they claim by our own freedoms to prepare the way for a worldwide New Caliphate that would suffocate and behead the very basis off rights(legal and moral) that allowed them to export and thrive-what irony!
No matter your belief, this is a potential plague that will make everyone reassess freedoms with separation and religious tolerance to what point, and have to re-evaluate the category of "sedition" to expand it to culture and societal stability lest we end up in multiple terroristic insurgencies in first world countries with them as primary goals of conquest, not just retaliation as now. This weighs heavy on open doors to which cultures if we value what has been achieved the past 2 millenia by western for western. It may not integrate as well in eastern cultures, but for certain, such open door invitation, acceptance and tolerance can only put us in retrograde development , dissassembling the world achieved in the west after generations of strife and cataclysm and war. This would be our devolution.
