Religion because it often encourages people to fear others uneccesarily and creates a very annal and dogmatic frame of mind, people can be happy without religion but, politics are a neccesary evil..often,the only thing that stands in front of the assembled armies is diplomacy.

I have to say David that I would not have thought that way until I read all the answers. You summed the question up eloquently and Justified it with simple Logic. Thanks for seeing what I was debating. If only we had a few more politicians who could think as rationally..

well, politics can be bad and cause major arguments and actual physical violence on occasion, but, religion has to be worse due to the wide variety of religions and the vastly different beliefs, i mean hell, look at the whole war thing, and the way that they believe it is an attack on their culture and religion.

Religion definitely. People have been fighting over Religion for thousands of years and it still hasn't stopped.

Politics is almost Puppet Like and doesn't even compare the passion one has for their Religious Beliefs.

They used to be equal, with emperors, kings and despots vying for influence over populations (From Egypt of antiquity to colonial Europe, but then at least the western world(and China during confuscianism and Legalism) sparated powers enough for Politics /Secular to be the dominating despot of the body that also drains the soul, robbing from the already diminished effect of religion. And it stayed that way and began to spread, except for Irelands failure.

neither are bad - both are complicated. I would have to say that I like politics less though. It's true that religious turmoil has caused possibly billions of deaths, but religion is more than necessary because there is one Truth, and the Truth is always worth defending. Religious people don't see their beliefs as a reason to attack others, nor do they adopt them to discriminate against others; religion is so complicated and often creates violence because it is so important....

Both politics and religion can be destructive and polorise societies. I think that Religion breeds the hate and Politics is an avenue to execute the hatred. This is the case in most wars and conflicts between different states. Political parties in the western world are often led by self proclaimed christians. i.e. President George W. Bush and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. It is an active involvement in any religious group at that level of power which has the potential to overtly influence opinions of leaders and affect pol...
