1. The death penalty or capital punishment is an excellent way to set an example and possibly deter crime, however it is almost impossible to calculate how much crime is detered or serious offenses detered because of the fear of getting executed. I however beleive in my personal opinion the death penalty is good for the people who are actually guilty of the crime that put them on death row, for the people who are wroungfully accussed it is terrible because of the fact that if because of DNA testing which cleared less than 40 prisoners recently from death row that it is not good because if someone is found innocent but was already executed than there is no way to take back that person's life.
2. The death penalty is constitutional but it depends on the method of execution, currently the supreme court is debaiting if death by lethal injection is consitutional because it is a three step process. It takes three shots to fully kill someone and two of them shut down a persons ability to feel and be consciously awake. The argument is that sometimes they don't work and there consciously alive for the death or feel it which would be a violation of cruel and unsusual punishment.
3. Vetranarians use a one shot, one kill lethal injection formula that could be amplified to put humans to sleep for good. There have been zero arguments on if that is ethical thus far. The electric chair is a good method and Texas is certainly proud of that fact, however it is very messy and some mistakes over time have happened but overall it is the best that is currently in use.
4. The fact of the matter is that life in prison is a very arguable question, infact this whole subject is but if you wanted life in prison the argument would be that its good for those people who are innocent and cleared from their charges while in jail. However in the U.S. the prisons are over-populated and cost a big amount of tax dollars to lock up criminals. Also the U.S. has the highest amount of its population in jail than any other country in the world. So the othe argument would be that you kill the people on death row because they are mostly people who have killed other human beings and its just cheaper and more efficient that way. The best thing to do is to give every inmate enough time on death row to be given a fair chance at being proven guilty due to the newly added DNA testing which has so far been very successful and then when enough time has passed execute them constitutionally.
5.It depends on who the "we" is your talking about. It shouldnt be up to the country of the U.S. for example to make that choice, it should be up to every state to choose to keep it or leave it. We should not abolish the death penalty because what if even though its hard to prove it does deter some people to not commit murder, there has to be a punishment severe enough to make people not want to kill another person otherwise the murder rate would rise drastically. That is just my opinion though.
