Why won't she ever leave???

Why won't the ex leave the guy alone? He is obviously tired of her, but couldn't muster the courage to tell her because she gives him the guilt trip, or she plays the victim: either she is broke, lost her job, got evicted because she can't make rent, no relatives or other friends, is handicapped etc etc.

The only solution is to find someone else and get involved with them. Often this relationship is known as a transition. Then when this doesn't work out a new relationship can be built with someone else. Aren't we humans complicated?
There are plenty of people to help in this world. Give to a charity and do your part that way. Laying the guilt trip on a person will do that person harm. Don't stand for it....

Because that girl cannot get the reality that the guy isn't hers anymore.

Apparently, she doesn't want to accept the ending of the relationship. He needs to be accept the fact that she will be a "victim" or "guilt-tripper" and just pick up and move on regardless of however she feels about the situation. Sometimes the only way to grow up is to make the hard decisions. If his decision is that the relationship is not functional or positive, then he needs to put his energy into one that will give him what he needs. Life isn't always easy, but no person should stay in a relatio...

The ex won't leave the guy alone because he doesn't have the courage to tell her he's tired of her. The guy can't deal with his own feelings of guilt, so he continues to subtly encourage her continued involvement with him.

The only solution is to tell her it's OVER. Yes, it's that simple. Sit her down, tell her you no longer see the future with her, and give her a timeline: 2 days (or whatever you can stand) to find another place to stay.
Stay firm and don't wobble in your speech. When it's over, it's over.

He needs to "muster the courage" and tell her it's O-V-E-R.
If he isn't going to tell her and just "put up with it", then that is partly his own fault.

She's broke, unemployed, homeless, friendless and handicapped? He (?)should really have aimed higher in the first place. Where did he (?) find her? I've got some pretty dodgy exs, but he (?) really knows how to pick them...

What I feel is there is still some kind of attachment between them. If she is giving him hard time then he must sit with her and try to resolve the issues and tell her what consequences she may face in case she has to leave the house after break up.
It is always good to resolve issues boldly rather than take it for granted and cencering the issues to a stage where it can not be cured at all....

She might be having trouble leaving because her entire sense of self worth depends on having a guy. Even if it means humiliating herself to keep him on board, she will do so. Better that than feel abandoned or alone. Many people suffer from this kind of neediness. It rarely has anything to do with the "love" he or she feels for the person who is rejecting them. It has much more to do with deep-seated feelings of worthlessness that probably began with a difficult childhood....
