There's no hard and fast answer to this one - I have heard that it can last into your 60's.. :( It can start from mid 30's in extreme cases but usually from say mid 40's. And then what? well free from all of it hopefully and a lot more energy - so my mother said.
Perimenopause, the period before and leading up to menopause, can start as early as your mid thirties and last up until the time you finally hit menopause. That time can vary from person to person, but the usual time is late forties to early fifties. Once you have gone a year without a period, you can consider yourself in menopause.
