The apostle says that “through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned.” (Rom. 5:12) Also he tells us, “The wages sin pays is death.” (Rom. 6:23) Since death constitutes “wages” for sin, the Bible principle is, “He who has died has been acquitted [justified] from his sin.” (Rom. 6:7, Kingdom Interlinear Translation) He dies because of the sin that is in him, but his death acquits him of the acts of sin he has committed....

We all die eventually! Death is not a punishment! It is the end of physical life! What sins have small babies and young children committed? None! But they die sometimes. So how could death be a punishment for sins?

It is for your unforgiven sins which must be atoned for. Your physical body may pass but there is your immortal soul which will "live on". This is whats in jeopardy if your sins are not forgiven
