Humour is one of those national things really and it rarely crosses the atlantic terribly well. To me Seinfeld is about as amusing as a dose of cholera but I appreciate he is well liked over there. Similarly Billy Connolly was huge over here but ditched in the States.

Now don't get me wrong I am not being the elitist Brit. My father was American and I was brought up by a gentle man from NY state who used to read James Thurber to me when I was small. I have the entire collection of his works on my shelves. I still read a lot of American humour, mostly Bryson and Keillor. Michael Moore leaves me a bit cold but I enjoyed (if that is the word) "Bowling for Columbine".
Father had a very soft American accent and you could hardly tell he was American at all - until he got angry and tried to swear. He couldn't, he just couldn't and this amused me to see Father surrounded by Brits who would use "Fuck" and "Bloody" as though they were mere commas in their verbal flow. He would do his best bless him and would attract stares while he 'fitted in' by using "Darn" and (in moments of true exasperation) "Gee whillikers". On occasion I had to explain his origins to the disconcerted natives who would always respond by a relieved nod of the head, an "Aaah" and an almost pitying look as if they were thinking "poor bugger he can't bloody swear". What's interesting now is that you see a certain sector of American actors who try to swear but they get it wrong and it just comes out disastrously naive - Jay in the film Dogma.
They should stick to their roots.
