Why So High?

Why is it that during the days when premarital sex was rare, and no one lived together before marriage, that the divorce rate was so low? You don't know someone until you live with them! Nowadays, premarital sex is commonplace, people live together, and get to know each other before marriage, yet the divorce rate is 52%? Is is better to marry someone you don't know, or do people bail out rather than work out their problems?
