That is such an important question that many decades ago I spent some time answering it.
I came to the following conclusions.
Most of the time the answer is in the box.
If you can't find the answer in the box it most likely is because you haven't analyzed the box correctly or sufficiently. So go back and do it again.

Everyone needs a Jack in the box at sometime or another.
Me myself think to much when i am outside the box. To stop this i go back into the box to rest my thoughts, Jack in the box is allways there to givr me a laugh.

I think that most people keep inside the box because it is easier and the answer can be found there. But there are the few people who only really think outside of the box and thats how we get some odd inventions and discoveries.
