Players names on jersey's - to add or not to add?

Andrea Bradley: Wow, that number 51 is really good, he keeps sacking the quarterback. What’s his name again? And why isn’t it on the back of his jersey? It’s time for change. Let’s become more like the NCAA champion Florida Gators and add our players’ names to the back of their jerseys.
Mike Buda: NIU is in no need for change. The Huskies have never had names on the back of their jerseys and it has worked out fine for them. I don’t remember Garrett Wolfe running over opponents with his surname topping off his jersey.

AB: Garrett Wolfe was also number 1, making it easy for all those “die-hard fans” to remember. But aside from the legendary Wolfe, I am tired of NIU’s student fans giving up on the team. Our guys are good, give them some respect by adding their names.
MB: The NIU faithful associated No. 1 with Garrett Wolfe and they should be capable of doing the same for the rest of the team. The team information and player bios are available before each game and that gives the fans an opportunity to learn their players’ names along with their numbers.

AB: Understandable, but the fans aren’t the only ones who need player names. NIU rarely gets a chance to play on ESPN, or on other notable sports channels. When we appear on ESPN, we should showcase as many players as possible, not just the players who catch the announcer’s eyes. Say you want to know who blocked for a run. ESPN is not going to give you that player’s name.
MB: By showcasing the players, ESPN would also be blowing up the players’ egos. If NIU puts the names on the jerseys they could be setting themselves up for failure. Some players could see this opportunity to show themselves off instead of keeping their heads straight and playing as a team.

AB: Egotistical players will be just as boastful regardless of the names on their backs. And perhaps the inclusion of names will give the lesser known players some attention. I guess all I am saying is that I am tired of boozed up fans shouting out numbers that don’t exist. At least give them names they can attempt to slur. If fans know their team, they may be more inclined to attend games.
MB: The lesser known players will be happy to hear the boozed up fans shouting at them while they sit there crying on the bench. So if you want to pay more for tuition, and pay for tickets so our football team can have their names on their jerseys, by all means, let there be names!
