Tough job. Establish a routine. Something he enjoys just before bed like a bath with some of that Johnson's sleepy bathtime stuff in. When he is good and drowsy put him down. Then don't go to bed yourself yet. If he cries leave him for 5 minutes the first time. Then extend it gradually.
It will be harder on you than him!
Try and do something you enjoy with your free time. You sound very conscientious. Do some me stuff!...

Kimmie,
One of the most difficult things for a mother to do is to hear her baby cry. But crying is not unhealthy for the baby. Obviously, you don't want to neglect your child, but a healthy balance is what you need. As hard as it is, let him cry sometimes. When you put him to bed, make sure he's been fed and diapered, that nothing is in his crib to hurt him, then try to force you...

your not alone, every mother has to let their baby cry, cry to sleep, cry for cuddles ect. it's healthy. otherwise no- one would anyone get anything done. it's hard i know, my daughter's 3 now, but as a baby i use to be crying with her, but in the hallway. never let them see you, or pick them up,or then they know what their doing is working, and they'll never stop. you have to take charge, be in command. and it get worse, if you dont put in the work now, so good luck. stay strong....

What your baby Is Trying to Say when he cries?
The Bible condemns shutting one’s ears to the cry of the helpless, and baby usually won’t let himself be ignored! (Proverbs 21:13, The New English Bible) He will cry until he is comforted or too exhausted to continue. Confessed one mother: “It just kills you ...” That instinctive desire to respond to the cry and comfort him lays the groundwork for real communication. Redbook magazine stated: “Babies whose mothers respond to them regula...

From experience, I learned that babies don't like silence. In utero, they are soothed by your bodily sounds, your heart beating, digestive noises etc. Soft noise can calm your baby and make him feel less alone. He may fuss a bit, but will settle quicker. The humming of a fan, or soft music can really work! Don't get him in the habit of sleeping with you now or you'll be doing it till he's in school! Put him in his cot every time he sleeps, and eventually his own bed wll be his comfort zone! It won't take long to get him...

I'm not sure this is the answer you are looking for, you might find some of the other's more of what you expect but after three kids and 5 younger siblings that i helped with i find that sacrificing a little now will give you what you want later...i carry my babies on me during the first weeks or months - in a sling that leaves my hands free, so i can do anything. that builds their security and pretty soon they want to be on their own, go and explore... music always helps putting them to sleep.
