I assume this is a 4 stroke Briggs and Stratton engine, single cyclinder. If it is a 2 stroke, make sure you have the correct mix of 2 stroke oil and petrol (gas). Check the condition of the spark. If this is discoloured , fouled excessively, or hasn't been changed in along time it's worth spending a small amount of money changing it. Also check the air filter and make sure it is clean and free of debris.
