Is this an Indian Artifact?

Hello,

I recently found this stone at an estate sale in SE Ohio and I would like to know if it is a Native American tool or what it may have been used for. It has fossils in it. Please look at photos here:

There isn't enough information given to form an opinion. See if the dealer belongs to the Antique Tribal Art Dealers Association.

It would be very hard to determine age and authenticity without inspecting the items in person. Even then, there are some very good reproductions out there that would easily pass for authentic items from the turn of the last...

Hard to say but I would have thought the presence of the fossil makes it unlikely to have been a tool.

I think it was used as a pestle. The mortar was a natural depression in a rock.
To tell more, you need a lot higher magnification.
My level of expertise is that of a common arrowhead hunter and a lot of reading.
The fossils do not look uncommon, but the design is very interesting.
