with neutral exchanges were determined, where the full red points in the figure below are

cross section is steeply falling.
Until the mid 1950s, the laws of nature were believed not to change, i.e. to be invariant,
under the exchange of particle and antiparticle. Thus, one would have expected to see no
difference between the neutral-exchange cross section of the electron-proton reaction and
that of the positron-proton reaction (the positron is the antiparticle of the electron).
