Low white blood cells
Asked by: smweber from -
I had a 3300 blood count last year. In a routine check this year my white count was 3400. The only medicine I'm on is a diuretic. There has been leukemia in my family. The doctor says we'll keep an eye on it. I am a nervous wreck. Is there any possibities other than leukemia?

It isn't dangerously low and may be a side effect of the diuretic (marrow aplasia). The lab would have alerted the doctor to any possibility of leukaemia on the film. Sleep well.

No, I don't think so, however you may seek a second opinion. Sometimes there some mistake. Tell the doctor how you feel, is probably the reaction to the medication. I was taking once some allergy pill and they find out something like that. I stop taking the pill and everything was OK. There is no reason to be a nerves wreck, just because there leukemia in your family does't mean you will have it. Think possitive, Gad bless. I hope you will be OK. gigia...
