What country to you believe, Georgia or Russia?

The tiny country of Georgia has been invaded by Russia.
Georgia apparently sent military units in northern and western zones of Georgia to suppress "Pro-Russian" separatists rebels. Russia claims That Georgia was engaging in "Ethnic Cleansing" of Georgians with Russian origins and only wanted to protect this minority from "genocide".
Georgia is claiming that the "Separatists rebels" were plants that Russia itself placed in their country "to raise hell" and just to give Russia and excuse to invade.
Russia claims it's done nothing wrong and in fact has done exactly the same thing that NATO did during the ex-Yugoslavia conflict of the 1990's that created all those new Balkan Republics.
What do you think? Is this a "round-about" way on the part of Russia to re-claim its old satellite ( and will this occur over and over again with other breakaway Republics of the old U.S.S.R. ?) or is Russia truly guarding against "ethnic cleansing" as its claiming?

You have made a very good assessment of everybody's claims as I understand them.
I believe Georgia. And Russia will invade again and again unless somebody does something besides talk which apparently is not going to happen. It is a shame that world leaders do not learn the lessons of past behavior.
This was clearly carefully planned and timed. Georgia's "crime" is in wanting an association with the West....

This is an interesting story. Quite frankly though, from my perspective, both sides are at fault. The Rebels had actually declared their independence from Georgia, and many of them have close ties with Russia (from what I've read many of them have passports to move in and out). The fact is though, the Rebels were never recognized by the world, it was only something Georgia and Russia recognized.

I agree. I think it is mostly Russia's fault. Like many of the former Soviet states, Georgia's desire to join the West (especially NATO) is out of a genuine fear and mistrust of the Russian government. And rightfully so!
