I'm looking for the title of an american movie about coalmine workers!

I saw this movie on television in the 90's. At the end of the movie the mine collaps and the main caracter (a big strong man) who was holding the construction together dies in the mine. One of the co workers writes something on the mine entrense about him.
It starts like "here lies a man,..."
