BMW Z4 starting problem

I unlocked my car with the button on my key, got into the car, and then locked the car with the button on the key. Then when i stuck the key in the slot it wouldn't let me turn the key to start the car. What do i do??

Are you sure its not the steering lock?
Does it start if the doors are unlocked, the car may not allow the steering lock to disengage whilst locked
