Asked by: dpk70 from -
If my wife bought our house before we were married and I have paid half the mortgage for 8 years (she bought the house 5 months before we started dating) do I have any rights to the property if we get divorced?

If the deed to the house is in your wife's name only, you have no claim on it at all, even though you paid half the mortgage. However, if your name was put on the deed at any time during the marriage, you are entitled to half the value of the house. You are entitled to half the value of the contents because it was the marital home, other than the furniture that was there before you married.
