What is going on?

I am 30 years old. The other night my husband and I had intercourse and it caused bleeding. The kind of bleeding that normally starts at the beginning of my period. Now it is about that time for my cycle to begin yet when that happened, used a tampon and we went to bed after cleaning up. When I awoke the next morning the tampon was clean and I had stopped bleeding. This has never happened before and my cycles are like clockwork. I know that stress can cause things like that to happen but is there anything else that can cause something like this? It is worrying me and I just want to know what the possibilities are.
