2003 sunfire alarm

I reset a engine trouble light by disconnecting battery cables and now the car has been malfunctioning. all panel trouble lights go on and engine shuts down. it will need a boost at this time. after a boost it will behavbe in a normal manner. the steering column had been worked on when this trouble started. what can be done to prevent a major repair bill. the alarm light stays on now and didnt before, the light on the top of steering column behind steering wheel.

This vehicle has a the PASSLOCK II key based engine disabling system, and from the description, it appears you've reset the VATS somehow. This is a problem that won't just go away either. It needs to be addressed soon.
