The invasion of Iraq by the US and allies was practically a strategic necessity. The establishment of a democracy in the middle east as a model and a way to maintain close contact with terrorists is the only hope for en eventual peace. I realize there is a lot of disagreement with this, but history shows an active engagement is necessary. Tactically the US could have done better, but this is almost always true when a democratic country invades another and then has to organize the peace....
