How does a person Qualify as an EXPERT witness and what if any qualifications .
Asked by: mravailable from -
The question relates to a traffic offence,(radar speeding detection), does the expert have to have active employment/connection with radar speed detection equipment, or academic qualifications or say 10yrs experience or the like?
In this case, the EXPERT, has set himself up as a consultant, in a residential situation and goes from one expert witness to the next, and thats his way of earning a living,
Regards,
Peter Sheehan

I have been an expert witness. My qualifications are academic. As well as experience.
The jury and sometimes the judge will have to decide often between conflicting testimonies. The better the qualifications the better the chances of your testimony being accepted as the best. Having been an expert witness is introduced into the record and helps establish the expertness. Current experience is practically a must....
