Who Should Have the Right to Vote?
Asked by: kc5255 from PHILADELPHIA, PA
Some people in the United States have the right to vote and some do not. Over time, some excluded groups, such as women and African-Americans, fought for the right to vote and won it.

I think that anybody has the right to vote, because it is their country and it is what they want. A presidential vote is too see which candidate is wanted most by the people of that country. No exceptions. If you are considered a citizen of a certain country, then you should have the right to choose what you think is best for it. The only exception I think is children under the age of 18. Although most of 16/17 year olds are mature to be able to vote, some are also not, and that is a risk that some people are not willin...

Every single human being, who is eighteen or older, and who is of sound mind, and is a citizen of the country should be able to exercise their franchise! I know people from other countries who don't yet have their green cards, or are here on a temporary visa can't vote. I know that severely mentally challenged adults can't vote. I don't think prisoners are allowed to vote. Are there any other excluded groups that I'm not aware of? I think we all should be aware of it, if there is!...

I don't want criminals choosing my leaders and lawmakers. I favor a way to restore rights to them after paying their debt to society. Some states make this too difficult.
I don't want mentally incompetent people doing that either. This includes being too young and a court decision that one is incompetent.
People who are not citizens often have interests that conflict with what is best for this country. No vote for them....
