WHAT IS THE PROBLEM HERE IN ASKPEDIA'S QUESTIONs -ANSWERS
|
There are approx 6100 people on this site and its ashame how some of us don't support others in answering their questions. I am calling no name but I know this particular asker has posted a lot of EASY questions and they recieve at the most 5 responses. Is it because their question isn't tag a REWARD? I have seen questions with 200-300 views with 10 answers. There have been questions ask by two different askers one with a reward and other has no reward. The asker with the reward receive more responses than the other. No question should be left behind especially the EASY ONES with or without REWARDS. Go ahead and knock yourself out and give me your honest EASY opinion. We are suppose to be a FAMILY here :-)
1) Why there are so many VIEWS than ANSWERS?
2) Why view a question if you are not going to answer it?
3) Why does reward questions receive a greater responses than a question with no reward? For the life of me, I just don't understand it since only ONE answer would be selected.
4) Why does a NO dollar question gets OVERLOOKED or recieved ONE answer or NO answer?
5) What type of questions that catches your eyes so the askers can receive better responses?
6) Are you answering this question because I tag a reward:-)??????????

Don't be SCARE in answering this question. If you fit into one or more of my questions, please share. I won't be mad. So far I had 14 views with 2 responses. I wonder what has happend to the other 12? This question or details are not hard to answer.
Additional Details added

Oh I just had 2 more views.
Additional Details added
(06/04/08):
WOW 26 views with 4 answers...What to the other 22.
Let me say, the answers that I receive so far are interesting and I do appreciate their HONESTLY.
Yes, we do have choices in selecting what questions to answer.
In my opinion, you can the same answers for a given question but remember that the ASKER controls his/her question for BEST ANSWERS.
I have seen REWARD questions with the SAME ANSWER or CLOSE to the SAME ANSWER
I have seen questions without a REWARD (It might have the correct answer so we don't answer it)
As I mention before, I am talking about EASY FUN ENTERTAINMENT PUZZLE QUESTIONS.
I am NOT talking about those HOMEWORK/STATE EXAMS QUESTIONS. That's another STORY for itself.
SO FOLKS WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?????? :-)

Hi, Heather here from South Africa! 1.) Firstly perhaps people do not feel thay have an appropriate answer, or maybe people just want to see if any one has the same questions as they need to ask, and they fin their answers here. 2.) As I have mentioned, perhaps you were looking for a question similar to the one you had, and you found an answer by this question. 3.) Here I think some people are just out for the "buck", maybe the rewards should not be revealed, and at the end of the questions run those questions with rewards should be rewarded, and those with no rewards as well as those with rewards should display a simple "note of gratitude" for the responses. 5.) I do not think that there is any "kind of question", it depends on the way you are feeling at the time, ie, you just had your heart broken, you will probably find related questions, perhaps give distorted answers, but answers will be honest. 6.) No, I am from South Africa, and doubt that I am even eligible for the reward, but I found your question to be interesting, something to think about, hey, and I have always loved giving my opinion on everything!!!

Everyone answers were well taken into consideration for this reward. Some of you had great positive answers and others share their opinions which were great also and I appreciated you took time in responding. I sent these responses to ASKPEDIA as a FEEDBACK. I'm so happy that they care about ALL users' concerns. This user has been selected "best answer" by pulling its name from my SPECIAL HAT. Which was pulled by my niece. My reward to the rest of you "THANK YOU" :-)

I'm so glad someone asked this question because I have noticed the same thing- it seems to either come down to the reward or, less frequently, whether or not the questioner has a reputation for not selecting best answers (maybe answerers don't want to hurt their rating?) So let me take a stab at your questions:
1- This one, I understand.. I will often open a question, only to find that it does not fall under my scope of expertise. I like to just stick with what I know. I figure anyone can search the internet for answers but someone who actually knows what they are talking about usually provide better answers because they can put their own spin on it based on experience.
2- See above :)
3- I'd love to see Askpedia throw out rewards altogether. Whatever happened to sharing information for the sake of learning?! Does anyone remember ask.com? That site was great because it was a forum setting, but you registered to whichever forums suited your expertise. There was no time pressure- you could come and go as you pleased. Your reward was offering insight to someone who needed it. Too bad the site was bought out :(
4- Here's something to think about- is it possible that the questioners who offer a reward take more time and care with composing their question and tags, therefore the question gets more attention?
5- Again, I like to stick with what I know. I usually find myself lurking around the pets and science categories, but I have also wandered around to see what catches my attention. Its all in the tagging and subject- tagging your question so that it's cross-posted under more than one category (I.E. a question about an animal's health could be tagged under pets, science, and health) will get more exposure, since some answerers like me tend to just watch a few categories at a time. Having a well written subject is also vital because an answerer will have a better idea as to whether or not they can contribute before they read the question in full. Details are also vital in order to receive better (and more) answers- be specific and include whatever details you can.
6- I honestly didn't even notice that there was a reward... this will probably be my first reward question I've answered! $1 is not really a motivator to me- sharing knowledge is.
Great questions!

I have the right to view all questions and answers from others. It is my choice whether I answer or not. I post questions that don't get answers. I also post questions that only Marilou will answer! So guess what? I select her's as the best answer!
I do know what you mean about getting views, but no responses. I think sometimes people just aren't in the mood to talk about what my question entails. I understand that. Even though a lot of people come to the site, there's only a handful of regulars, including yourself, who answer my questions. Like myself, I think some people come here too learn, also. Not just for their own Q&A.
Anyway, I ask what I want, and answer what I can answer, and I don't give anything else any thought. This site is supposed to be something that is informative, as well as enjoyable. Just use it for what it's worth....
Additional Details added (12:29am 06/04/08):
By the way, I enjoy your Q&A. The powerball was very creative. My favorite questions are the silly ones. To answer your #5 question, I answer alot of relationship and health questions, because I feel more knowledgable in those catergories. :)

1. I do agree that there are more views than answers. This is possible in theses cases.
a. The viewer opened the question to answer and suddenly he/she receives a call/guest/important work so has to leave it without answering.
b. He/she does not find it intresting or to his/her skill to answer the question.
2. As I replied above, those might be two scenarios possible.
3. So far I am concerned I answer both of the questions. you must have noticed that even if your few questions had awards but I did not answer because of following reasons:
a. Some one else had already answered it which was of no relevance to repeat unless I could add something meaningful to it.
b. I did not have expertise to answer it.
c. I could not digg out from various search websites the proper answer for it.
4. In my case it is not so. I try to answer as much as possible. When ever I am free I try to answer them. Usually those questions are answered first which appear on first page and unluckily questions with rewards do appear mostly on first page. I try to answer all of those questions first and if I have enough time to answer more then I go deeper in other pages as well where I find more questions with either no answers or few answers as you said.
5. I love maths/science and technology related questions so I always answer them first and then later I try to answer others.
6 No. Yes. As I said before I try to answer all questions on first page which I have not answered and this time as well same has happened. I answer both with reward tags and with out.
Additional: Try to keep your question as short as possible. People get scared away to answer more than two questions within one question. Here there are 6 questions to answer and not every one has patience like me and others who have answered your questions.
Also few askers here try to get their home work done for free and even if I know all of their answers I ignore them to answer.
Yes, in one of your past question which was very tricky about Rain, Rain song... It was unfair on the part of first answerer as others could get enough details from the first answeres and they had good time to find remaining answers. Though I remember noone could fit best but I wsted a lot of time to make it happen but I failed as well. lol

(1) There are more views than answers because people either don't know the answers, or they think the question is boring, or if another person has already answered with the correct answer, they don't want to repeat it!
(2)You view the question if the titleis vague, and you're not sure what it means! Then you answer if you know the subject.
(3)People want to take a shot at winning the money I guess! You sure can't get rich doing this, so I don't get it either!

(4)Same thing again! If someone has already answered the question correctly, they see no point in repeating it!
(5)I answer all the questions I possibly can - some choose certain questioners who they enjoy more than others.
(6)I don''t care about the reward! Just want to express my opinion! Interesting question!
I admit, I enjoy the fun questions more than the more serious ones, but I try to answer as many as I can, even if I have to research the answer! I noticed you ask a lot of questions that don't have just one right answer! I like those! Did you notice that people that have long drawn out essay questions about relationships are lucky if they get one answer! They are desperate for advice, so I answer those if I can! This is a great site - I enjoy it a lot - and I like to give best answers to people who are new on the sight if possible! I've been accused of monopolizing this site because I answer too many questions! Isn't that what Askpedia is all about?

1) Why there are so many VIEWS than ANSWERS?

A) There might be various reasons for most views to the questions rather than answers. I could only guess some of the reasons. I generally check out the questions to answer only my kid is fast asleep, but if he wakes up suddenly I either close the window or have it reload it in order to sign in and answer. May be due to these reasons people view but could get to answer.
2) Why view a question if you are not going to answer it?
A) Specified few of the reasons of Askpedia team not answering. I think if there wouldn't have been any issues they might sit up and answer. I came across an interesting question 2 days back which was to expire in another 11 hours, I was about to answer and a repairing guy turned up and I just had a thought that 11 hours to go so I can answer back. Next time I sat down with it and my family friends landed up suddenly and I couldn't answer. Final chance and there was only few hours left but my little one woke up and at last I wasn't able to answer by the end of the day. So, I myself provided almost 4 views with no answer. So this could happen with many and so they might not answer.
3) Why does reward questions receive a greater responses than a question with no reward? For the life of me, I just don't understand it since only ONE answer would be selected.
A) There is a general tendency of people willing to be specified to provide best answer and at same time rewarded to provide such a good answer, I guess that makes most of them to go for a reward questions before any other ones. People would compete with others to provide with best answers, try our luck and provide the best of what we could.
4) Why does a NO dollar question gets OVERLOOKED or received ONE answer or NO answer?
A) Since there isn't immediate reward I guess these questions are overlooked by many. I have asked few questions but I could hardly get 3 or 4 answers at the maximum.
5) What type of questions that catches your eyes so the askers can receive better responses?
A) I would rather prefer to answer something which I don't know, this would rather improve my general knowledge overall. I try to research and learn a bit about the question and answer it.
6) Are you answering this question because I tag a reward:-)??????????
A) At first "YES". The moment I logged in I clicked over the reward questions and $20 made me immediately to go ahead and answer but after reading out your question the over all reward thing went off my mind. As I started to answer I felt like I'm speaking my mind out. Now reward isn't in my view and feel great to answer out.
I really like the thought that struck your mind. I never concentrated more on the views before. I'm happy that I was able to finally answer it, Great question.

I thought I should shed some light into this, and some peanut butta jellay!!!
I know this is long, but please read it!!
1) Why there are so many VIEWS than ANSWERS?
How about we take this very question as an example
At the point I'm answering:
User Views: 61
Answers : 11
Why?
- You like to stick to your groove :P
- Human thinking: Simple tasks worth hard money $$$$$
(People don't feel like reading through the whole thing)
2) Why view a question if you are not going to answer it?
- To see if its worth answering
- How the heck do you know if you actually know the answer before looking at it :O
- To discover some knowledge from the given answers. Who knows, maybe that was the question you pondered over and medidated over for the past 25 years. And you're like
"Sh**, I could've asked this 25 years ago"
So you just read the answers in that 'open' question rather than joining group ask since you don't wana waste your money ("Human thinking")
3) Why does reward questions receive a greater responses than a question with no reward? For the life of me, I just don't understand it since only ONE answer would be selected.
Askpedia users: 6100 (based on what you said)
Active Users: 4000
(Approximate estimate, since you cannot delete your account here unless you contact Askpedia)
People signed up for $$$$$: 3000
(Estimate, but I can bet on it if you want :D)
There you go :D
4) Why does a NO dollar question gets OVERLOOKED or recieved ONE answer or NO answer?
Answer would be same as above???
5) What type of questions that catches your eyes so the askers can receive better responses?
Yep, this is where thinking comes in. Here are some things I keep in mind when asking a question:
- Keep a bit of a reward so it attracts users
- Make the question title simple to read
(Not everybody's first language is English)
- Your question details should be short and explained right. As I said, you don't want long explanations there.
- Look at other questions to see what pulls up your eye to them. That gives you an idea of what your question title should be like.
6) Are you answering this question because I tag a reward:-)??????????
Possibly, but then again not really. I just came up to your profile and opened up your last 5 questions lol. But then I saw your long question details, but since the first part explained it, I stayed. So the reward did play a small part in there :O
MY SUGGESTION FOR THIS QUESTION:
Stop adding more and more additional details about the user views n all. Here is mathematical concept you must be familiar with:
Number of Answers= Number of views - (Number of people who got scared by looking at the long question)
Cheers :D

Some people are in it for the incentives, plain and simple. At my age, it doesn't matter to me. I'm too mature to care. I'm staring the mid-60's right in the face and askpedia is a fun hobby for me. It keeps me level headed (especially with the work I do outside of the home)!
I use 3 things when answering on Askpedia: My experiences, my expertise and my research skills. God knows at my age I could fill a book! :)

2) Why view a question if you are not going to answer it?
Well, I do like to check the questions because i might have dig out something while reading it closely. Like the title of THIS question dont really express what u actually have inside. So I have to come in to read it out. Isnt it ?
3) Why does reward questions receive a greater responses than a question with no reward? For the life of me, I just don't understand it since only ONE answer would be selected.
Its simple. everybody likes to beef up their account. It does direct there, right ?
4) Why does a NO dollar question gets OVERLOOKED or recieved ONE answer or NO answer?
I guess I have answered this on the answer above. Simple. Even it happens to me when I dont much time to answer all the questions. I will pick one or two reward questions and answer. But I do answer all the interesting questions ( in my eyes ) when i start to answer questions.
5) What type of questions that catches your eyes so the askers can receive better responses?
Nothing specific. I guess its just the presentation of question and sometimes the user nick.
6) Are you answering this question because I tag a reward:-)??????????
Nope. right now Im answer all the questions I can.
