This can be scary at first, but you learn very quickly what kind of a person you are, and what your prorities are! Then there's your first serious, committed relationship with another person - what a learning experience that is! You get to know a side of yourself that you've never known before! You won't have to ask yourself questions, because you've already learned the answers just by living your life. Your first career- oriented job will teach you a lot about yourself as far as abilities, adapting to the workplace, social skills and confidence level! Then, of course, there's marriage, parenting etc. etc.! You never really stop learning about yourself as you go from one stage of life to another! Enjoy the ride! I tell people, "When I stop learning, I'll be dead!"

Somepeople use many different social concepts to identify themselves, using religion, or philosophy. A large proportion of people in our society define themselves by their occupation or social situation.

You can classify yourself until the cows come home, you can read self improvement books, psychology books, religious books. However as I say to my daughter she is special and unique, why spend so much time worrying about which social group or class you belong to. Twelve months down the line you'll be a completely different person anyway, in ten years time you won't even look like the same person.

Everything on this planet and in this universe is in a constant state of continuity and change, don't concern yourself as to who you are now, but who you want to be.

You can change who you will be by changing what you do now.

Gee, I find out more about myself everyday. I don't know if we ever really know who we are. I think we find out through life experiences who we are not, and by deduction, find bits and pieces of ourselves. I think life is one big "series of becoming..."

A good way to start could be by writing your thoughts on paper, this can support you in learning about what you’re afraid of, what you’re passionate about, and what you aspire to. Buy yourself a beautiful notebook, and a pen you enjoy writing with. Find 20 quiet minutes in your day, and steal away to a comfortable place in your home. Begin your process by writing as if you were talking with yourself. Write about how you’re feeling, what’s bothering or exciting you, or the day ahead of you, or answer questions from books.

Remember that your diary can be messy and illegible. It’s for your eyes only, and doesn’t need to be presentable. Enjoy the process of establishing a connection with you through the written word.

Also, meditate. Observe yourself in the present moment. Find some quiet moments in your day, and sit comfortably. Your goal should be to “empty” yourself of any anxiety or worry. Focus on your breath, and allow the thoughts that enter your mind to be there. Acknowledge them, but don’t focus on understanding what they mean, or solving any problems. Just allow yourself to be still. Take a walk, It allows you to slow down, and notice what’s going on around you.
