What is best way to clean up river rock around the house?

My husband has put river rock around our house. Now, after several years, dirt, maple seeds, etc. have accumulated. I would really like to clean the bed in the front of the house. I've tried using a blower but that just makes the rocks fly around. What I would really like to do is remove the rocks and dirt and start over. At this time of year, the maple seeds are very plentiful so I'm throwing rocks away that I don't really want to throw away. Any suggestions on how to get the river rock bed back in order?

It's not cheap and easy to clean years of dirt and other accumulations on rocks. I would suggest you to get rid of them and use the fron with smooth surface which can be cleaned easily when ever you want.
