How to save a rubber plant after being attacked by pup.
|
I have a 6ft rubber plant that my new pup has destroyed, he has eaten all the leaves off up to about 2 feet from the top, then almost eaten through the main trunk of the plant. I have hormone rooting liquid and I was going to try to cut the trunk above the damage, coat in liquid and replant in the same pot ? Will this work ?

You can also, where the pup has chewed into the stalk/main trunk, is take some moist potting soil and fill the hole or area where its been chewed. Wrap in saran wrap and keep moist, in about a week or so a new shoot will start to develop from the area you had put the soil. Once the shoot is strong and well on its way, you can take the top part from where the new shoot has come from, slice on an angle and put the top part in a large container full of water allow to sit for a week or so and then lots of shoots will start ...

I think you would have success with air layering. The procedure is basically enclosing a part of the stem with growing medium and a watertight membrane where roots will develop; afterward the original plant can be severed below the new roots.

Try to cover the plant through a netted cage up to a height of around 4 feet so that the pup can not reach to it. Once the plant will grow to this height then the pup will no longer be attracted to it.
