Swollen area on back, opened up, excreded blood, black substance
|
min schnauzer, 7 yrs. Had a bump 3/4" diameter on back for a few days.
Today it opened up, exreeting a small amount of blood and a black substance, part of it was hard, along with a substance that looked like small curd cottage cheese. The whole area 2inch square is still swollen. We have put peroxide on it and squeeze it every 1/2 hour or so.

Sounds like a bacterial infection, which caused the boil (or Furuncle)- black pus is a common indication. Your dog will most likely need antibiotics (topical and/or oral, or intravenous), therefore he should be seen by a vet. He may also need to wear an Elizabethan collar to prevent him from licking the wound and spreading the infection.
I would not advise using hydrogen peroxide, as it tends to sting and break...
