I believe so, it really depend on your state law to see what is the legal age to be consider adult and live by yourself. It is legal to still go to school, why wouldn't it me?

In majority of the states, when you are 18 you are oficially an adult. Since you are a year below, I believe it is illegal, UNLESS your mother has signed papers claiming that you are no longer under her. So then you should belong to the state in an orphanage, but because you are recieving financial aid from family members, they must have signed papers becoming your legal gaurdians untill your age of 18.

Laws vary by state but in most states for a minor to live on their own they must file for emancipation through the courts but since your already 17 and courts are so slow its prob not worth the time. By the time things got through youd likely be 18 or pretty close.
