Ruby Holler is about these two twins named Dallas and Florida, who live in the Boxton Creek Home, which is kind of like a foster home. They have lived there their whole lives. The couple that runs the home are very cruel and they never are nice to them or anybody else who is there. Their names are Mr. Trepid and Mrs. Trepid. Dallas and Florida get punished everyday for the silliest things like if they were running in the house or if they were screaming. The punishements that the adults give them are awful. They have to sit in a basement for a few hours thinking about what they did. I mean the basement is dark and scary and it is covered with cobwebs. Mr. and Mrs. Trepid call it the Thinking Corner. Don't worry, they do get their chances to get out of that ratty home they don't like to call home. Other families have come in and taken them home thinking that Florida and Dallas were going to be perfect children. Then a few days later, guess who's back? Yep you guessed right, Dallas and Florida. Most of the families they have gone with were much worse than the Trepids. One family even told Dallas to dig a well and he wouldn't because he said it was impossible and that family dragged him and his siter right back where they started their life. Dallas and Florida thought they would never get out of that place. Until finally an elderly couple came into the Boxton Creek Home looking for a child because their children all moved out and got married. What they found were two twins who go by the names of Dallas and Florida. Florida didn't want to go with them because she thought they would just be like all the other people who adopted them. She thought it was a waste of time. Dallas wanted to because he would do anything just to get out of that place. Florida gave in and the children went with them thinking they would be back very soon. The couple's names were Tiller and Sairy. They lived in a little country-side called Ruby Holler. Once Dallas and Florida got to Ruby Holler, they couldn't believe their eyes. It was so beautiful. There were trees and grass and rivers and everything you could imagine! They soon figured out that Tiller and Sairy were the nicest people they had ever lived with. They never got punished or yelled at or anything. They were loving life. They even got the chance to go on a trip with them. But they would separated for a few weeks because Tiller was going to Rutabago River and Sairy was going to Kangadoon to look for a very rare bird. Dallas went with Sairy and Florida went with Tiller. They had to get prepared for the trips first. Dallas and Florida got paid for working. They got paid five dollars an hour. Florida and Tiller had to fix-up a boat so that they could get across the river and Dallas and Sairy had to buy camping supplies for their trip. Meanwhile, Mr. Trepid found out that Sairy and Tiller had understone funds which is money that is buried underground and covered by a stone. They have a lot of money under these stones and of course Mr. Trepid, being the greedy man that he is, wanted to steal it. He figures out a way to get to it while the people are all on their trips. So, the question is: Will Mr. Trepid find the understone funds and steal the money before they get back? You can find out by reading Ruby Holler yourself. Enjoy! The book that I read is kind of like some of the other books I have read. I've read books that have been adventurous, funny, and sad at times. This book is all of those things in one. It's not really sad but if you think about it, it could be. I would definitely give this book a 10 in rating because it was really interesting, funny, and adventurous and sad at the same time. I would have to recommend this bok to people of all ages because it was probably the best book I have read in a long time! I think that anybody who can read will enjoy this book. I would'nt really change anything about this book. It was very good. THe language used in this book was appropriate and was used at the right time. It was easy to follow, and I understood everything I was reading. It was descriptive and wasn't too long or too short. It was just right.
