I think the meaning of life is just to experience it. Learn from our mistakes, make the best choices we can with the knowledge we do have, love as much as possible, find joy in what we have and or do with our lives.
We all have a direction, just a knowing of where we should be and what we should be doing. The most important thing is to try and stay on your path and have as few regrets as possible when it's time to go home!
