Whats the point?
Asked by: Beamsy from Brisbane, Australia
this morning i was eating my wheet-bix and i had this thought...

why?

whats the point of life, we do the same thing over and over and over... and for what!?
why do we struggle with staying alive when death is always following, waiting for the right moment to strike? whether it be disease, age or a bus that came out of nowhere, it is a sure thing to happen. suddenly i noticed that people die every day and again, i asked, Why?
there deaths don't matter to me, so what was there point, and if they died without me caring what happens if i die, sure a bit of mourning flowers and a reserved parking space in the graveyard, but i mean in the long run. i just waste space don't I. more additional details later... ...i have to go run seemingly pointless rat race that life is...
Additional Details added (02/17/08):
... to continiue, if there is a point in life, a real reason that we exist, what happens if we ever reach it? what do we do next? and about death...
why do we wait? why do we struggle? is life just a test from something else? (e.g. god) and what about this "something else" if there is a place that our conciouse reaches like heaven or something then what is ther an ULTIMATE GOAL that we all live for but cannot disapoint if we reach it?
we are all gonna die anyway. the suns in the universe will collaps and burn out and there goes the universe!, how do we survive?
to sum up... WHY DO WE CONTINIUE LIVE, AND OVERCOME OBSTICLES AND KNOW THAT WE ARE GONNA DIE ANYWAY!? WHY, WHY, WHY!!!!

I have felt this way before. They say it's a form of depression. Knowing God gives more purpose to life, life then makes more sense.

Everything you said is true, and the questions don't warrant any answer other than that we are all creatures of habit, with an instinct for survival. The point i'd like to emphasise to you is that your view is very negative and your cup half empty!! I would like to encourage you to detatch yourself from your emotions for a moment and with wider eyes look at the situation once more. Everything that you are doing with your life you are doing because YOU choose to, for whatever reason and on whatever level, anything that y...

Years ago a psychology professor gave his students their final exam for the year and it only contained a single question. Why? All the students except for one gave long explainations answering the question. That single student wrote two words on his exam before turning it in. Why not?

We as people have a built in mechanicism we call 'survival'. We face difficult times every day of our lives, that is our destiney. Any person can do ...

I have thought the same thing. My father was killed at work when I was 15. He was really the only person I was close to. I took it very hard and got to were I felt there was no reason in eating or living. To me eating was living and what was the point. I am now 26 and still get in those moods every once in a while. I now have a family and have realized there is no answer. When I get upset it all comes back to why even go through with life because we all will die. Death is always a second away. I have decided that if we ...

life can never be pointless or worthless.....because there are certain moments in it which is worth a million other lives.....and if u were asked to choose between walking all over the broken road again and suffer these pains again just to reach these moments....or to not exist in first place......um sure u'll choose the first one....coz these very moments may give a meaning to ur life.....and even to the whole universe...and um sure u'll come along one of these moments one day.....um still waiting myself:):):)...

There really isn't a "point" to life. We continue to live and attempt to overcome obstacles for various reasons. Each person has their own set of reasons.

I think many folks do it because they have been told they should. With almost everybody else putting life over everything else, the indication is that we individuals should do the same thing.
