How do you take an unused primer out of a shotgun shell without shooting it or it going off on you?

Spray the exposed primer with WD-40 or other light oil then discard the case. If you need to save the case, let the oil soak into the primer for at least an hour, then inset the case in a neck sizing die with the sizing button removed. Wrap several towels around the die in case it detonates, then slowly ease it out with your reloading press.
