I was never spanked nor was my Brother, nor were my parents. However, sad to say, I have spanked my child, albeit with little or no enthusiasm. I feel the difference between an un-spanked child and a spanked is negligible. Unless the spanking is taken to the extreme.

Yes. I was spanked for creating trouble in class when I was 8 years. I do not find it wrong as the intention with which I was spanked was the discipline and not otherwise.

Yes, and it has been a great source of pain my entire life. Children need love and limits not "a good crack on the backside". My self-esteem has been so damaged I have trouble managing everyday life and everyday decisions. If another adult doesn't do what we would like, do we haul off and slap them? Not if we want to stay out of jail and have any friends at all! Now that I have a daughter of my own and took the time to learn less invasive , less abusive ways of negotiating behavior changes , I resent my parents even more for not thinking I was worth such an effort. There are alternatives that get results without sacrificing the child's self-esteem. If parents aren't too self-centered to look for them, that is.
