Options for whitening teeth?
Asked by: tyler from SEBASTOPOL, CA
I know there are various ways of whitening teeth. Can someone summarize them and tell me about pros and cons?

Also, would be interested in hearing about people's experiences with different methods.

I've found most over the counter treatments pretty unsatisfactory, so you're down to cosmetic dentistry if you really want to see a difference.

You could try bleaching - there are some associated problems, that others have mentioned such as heightened sensitivity etc. - but the results can be good, dependant on the natural colour of your teeth. They can only be bleached back to this, and the shades can vary quite a bit - so its a good trea...

All whiteners contain carbamide peroxide which is a nuclear contaminant. The short term safety has been established. It hasn't been in common use long enough to establish the long term safety.
More often than not, teeth whitening serves as an adequate solution to discoloration. However, the effectiveness of teeth whitening can vary, depending on the individual. Also, whitening procedures can cause temporary tooth sensitivity, which varies in intensity from person to person.

You have several options here, the first and most obvious (least expensive too!) is to just be thorough in brushing your teeth. Not missing days, and going for regular dentist appointments.

If this doesn't work, there are over-the-counter teeth whiteners. Beware of some of these! A lot of these are scams so go for a product whose brand name you know and trust.

Depending on whether your teeth are sensitive or not, there are many different options.

If you have no sensitivity, then you could try Crest White strips, they are very effective and easy to use.. they do show results very quickly but you have to be careful not to leave the strips on for longer than recommended because it could cause your enamel to strip away and you may need a root c...

Yes there are varouis ways of whitening teeth but I have found that Baking Soda and peroxide is the best. Arm& Hammer Advanced white toothpaste is the best you see results the fastest. Take my advice and try it. It's like $3.00 at your local Dollar Store.

I find baking soda and peroxide to be the most effective and the cost is underᅡᆪ5. The only disadvatage being tooth sensitivity increases and can be painful so go easy until you know your limits!!! Also read that these can strip enamel so dont over do it! Pearl drops are also an excellent alternative and can be used daily as normal toothpaste. Others worth a try are; Arm and hammer whitening and Beverly hills whitening.
Good luck!...
