How do I teach my 6 year old to do his addition mentally instead of using his fingers?

Gee, I still count on my fingers. Isn't that OK? If he picks up on the concepts, he is doing math.

I wonder if a game like Brain Age (for the Game Boy DS) would help him out. There are at least two programs that deal only with simple math problems ...

why won't you try objects like pencils, crayons or tally marks. But fingers work until you make it pass ten.lol. However objects or tally marks works and fingers
