You do have the situation where one person was composing an answer while the other person was finishing and they didn't see each other. You can tell this by looking at the posting times.

But most often the person looks at the answer given and can give more information. It is often easier to be second after the first person figured out what the question was about.
I can tell you that most people pick the best answer because of some minor point that some answerer gave. Often this is not a part of the question.
Long answers can be good if they stay strictly to the point. Avoid those long copy and paste ones that don't stay with the point.
As an answerer I appreciate you wanting to pick the best answer. My policy is to answer questions for people who pick the best answer. If they pick bad answers over good ones, I quit answering their questions.
So you can only use your best judgment. As long as you do this all is well.

This is great question which I have come across to same situation in my questions . The best way is to add more comments so that you can find which expert is giving you better replies in added comments and if this is not possible then the only way is to extend the answer instead of selecting one as the best.

I really feel bad to select one as the best the other expert is equally good. Now the thumbs up part of Askpedia is also not suitable as I myself have tried to do this as this can be manipulated if you ask your friend their ID and password and can boost the thumbs up,.

I am happy to find that askpedia has software to track such artifical boosting but nonetheless what I feel is askpedia shall not consider the thumbs up given by referrals of the askers.

If the answer is just similar with very minor difference then ofcourse the expert who answered first deserves to get the best answer in my point of view. Regarding time and date is mentioned when any expert answers the question so there should not be any doubts about it.

My guess is that you are going to get a lot of the same answers in here also. I didn't read everyone else's answers, and so I may have said the same thing as someone else. If this is the case, having both answers of equal quality and clarity, the first gets the prize and the second gets honorable mention, aka a comment thanking them for the nice answer.

If your question is a personal one relating to your emotions and thought process, then you should pick the one that makes you feel enlightened. But here's the catch: What if you ask a question that you already know the answer, yet you still want validation??? The first expert who comes up with "your" answer should be your choice. If two people "validated" your "answer" and one of them wrote more eloquently than the other, then pick the more intellectual (and sensitive) expert.

You should be able to tell who plagiarized (copied without consent) whose what. So the original "expert" should be picked.

If you decide to ask a question regarding your personal situation or problem, just make sure that you really want honest answers; meaning, you shouldn't expect answers that will only make you feel better. Find how you can be helped emotionally, psychologically, and physically.

This is a good question but I think you should pick the answer that you plan that is right for you in the future. Don't just think that the 2 good questions are good but look after your life in case something goes wrong and you can't fix it.

i rely think that the first answer that you think is best should be rated best. it's to easy to cheat.

Perhaps in the event of a tie-break you should flip a coin to decide which answer you want to select as the best.

i figured the one that asked first should be chosen.

you can only select one it sucks i no but o well. i would recoment that you dont select a best answer if they are all good. also the first 1 that you thought was fairly good is the one you should select.

Obviously if the answers are identical you should pick the one that was written first. However you should always pick the one that YOU think is best and helped you the most despite what order they were entered.
